Discover the Benefits of Eating Clean and Natural

Have you ever wondered what "real food" really means and why it’s such a buzzword in the health and wellness world? Real food is more than just a trend—it’s a lifestyle that prioritizes whole, natural ingredients over processed and artificial alternatives. Choosing real food can transform your energy levels, overall health, and even your relationship with eating. In this guide, we’ll explore the benefits of clean eating, the science behind natural ingredients, and how Sow Strong Food’s MOM Bars and MOM Bites make real food snacking simple and satisfying.

What is Real Food?

Real food refers to minimally processed ingredients that retain their natural nutritional value. Unlike processed foods that often contain artificial additives, preservatives, and excess sugars, real food is clean, nutrient-dense, and closer to how nature intended.

The Essentials of Real Food:

  • Whole Ingredients: Think fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds.

  • Unprocessed: Minimal interference in production, preserving natural nutrients.

  • Nutrient-Dense: Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Choosing real food isn’t just about what’s on your plate—it’s a commitment to fueling your body with ingredients that support long-term wellness.

The Benefits of Clean Eating

Clean eating is all about embracing real food. It’s a commitment to nourishing your body with high-quality, unprocessed ingredients that promote health and vitality.

Key Benefits of Clean Eating:

  1. Sustained Energy: Whole foods provide a steady release of energy, avoiding the highs and crashes associated with processed snacks.

  2. Improved Digestion: Nutrient-dense foods support gut health and reduce bloating.

  3. Reduced Inflammation: Clean ingredients help minimize inflammation linked to chronic diseases.

  4. Mental Clarity: Proper nutrition fuels your brain for sharper focus and productivity.

  5. Weight Management: Real food helps regulate appetite and reduces unhealthy cravings.

Why Good Fats Are Essential

Not all fats are created equal. Good fats—found in foods like avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil—are critical for a healthy diet.

Benefits of Good Fats:

  • Energy Source: Provide long-lasting energy for daily activities.

  • Brain Health: Support cognitive function and mental clarity.

  • Nutrient Absorption: Help your body absorb essential vitamins (A, D, E, and K).

At Sow Strong Food, good fats are a cornerstone of our recipes. Our MOM Bars and MOM Bites incorporate natural sources of healthy fats, ensuring you get the fuel your body needs without any artificial fillers.

The Power of Heart-Healthy Oats

Oats are a nutritional powerhouse and a key ingredient in many real food recipes. They’re rich in soluble fiber, which helps reduce cholesterol and maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

Why Heart-Healthy Oats Matter:

  • Cholesterol Reduction: Soluble fiber binds to cholesterol, removing it from the body.

  • Stable Energy: Slow-digesting carbohydrates in oats provide sustained energy throughout the day.

  • Digestive Health: Promote regularity and feed beneficial gut bacteria.

Sow Strong Food’s snacks are packed with heart-healthy oats, making them a perfect choice for those looking to support their cardiovascular health while enjoying delicious flavors.

Why Nothing Artificial Matters

Artificial additives, preservatives, and sweeteners are common in processed foods, but they can have significant drawbacks for your health.

The Risks of Artificial Ingredients:

  • Digestive Issues: Artificial additives can disrupt gut health.

  • Allergy Triggers: Dyes and artificial flavors can exacerbate sensitivities.

  • Chronic Risks: Some preservatives are linked to long-term health risks.

Sow Strong Food prioritizes transparency and quality. Our MOM Bars and MOM Bites are free from artificial additives, giving you peace of mind that what you’re eating is clean and natural.

The Role of Good Carbs in a Balanced Diet

Carbohydrates are often misunderstood, but good carbs—those from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables—are essential for energy and overall health.

What Makes a Carb "Good"?

  • Low Glycemic Index: Provide slow-releasing energy without blood sugar spikes.

  • Fiber-Rich: Promote digestion and keep you feeling full.

  • Nutrient-Packed: Contain essential vitamins and minerals.

Sow Strong Food uses good carbs like oats and natural sweeteners to craft snacks that deliver clean, sustained energy for your busy lifestyle.

A Guide to Digestive Health and Wellness

Gluten-free snacking is no longer just a trend; it’s a lifestyle choice embraced by millions worldwide. Whether you’re gluten intolerant, have celiac disease, or simply want to improve your overall well-being, gluten-free snacks offer a wide range of health benefits. In this article, we’ll explore the reasons why gluten-free snacking is for everyone, delve into the health benefits of avoiding gluten, and highlight how Sow Strong Food’s MOM Bars and MOM Bites provide delicious, nutrient-packed solutions for your snacking needs.

Understanding Gluten: What Is It and Why Does It Matter?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and other grains. It provides elasticity to dough, giving baked goods their chewy texture. While gluten isn’t inherently harmful, it can cause digestive and systemic issues for some people.

Who Benefits from Avoiding Gluten?

  1. People with Celiac Disease: An autoimmune disorder where gluten damages the small intestine.

  2. Individuals with Gluten Sensitivity: Non-celiac gluten sensitivity can cause bloating, fatigue, and headaches.

  3. Health-Conscious Consumers: Many choose gluten-free snacks to reduce inflammation and support better digestion.

The Health Benefits of Gluten-Free Snacking

Switching to gluten-free snacks can have a profound impact on your digestive health and overall wellness, even if you don’t have a diagnosed gluten issue. Here are some of the benefits:

1. Improved Digestive Health

For those with gluten sensitivities, removing gluten can reduce bloating, gas, and stomach discomfort. Gluten-free snacks often contain alternative grains like oats or quinoa, which are easier on the digestive system.

2. Reduced Inflammation

Gluten has been linked to inflammation in some individuals. Eliminating it from your diet can help alleviate symptoms of chronic inflammation, such as joint pain and fatigue.

3. Increased Energy Levels

Many people report feeling more energized after removing gluten from their diets. This may be due to improved digestion and reduced inflammation.

4. Enhanced Nutrient Absorption

Gluten can damage the lining of the small intestine in sensitive individuals, impairing nutrient absorption. Avoiding gluten can help restore gut health and ensure your body gets the nutrients it needs.

The Rise of Gluten-Free Snacks: A Delicious Solution

Gluten-free snacks are no longer limited to bland rice cakes or overly processed alternatives. Today’s options are diverse, nutritious, and packed with flavor—and Sow Strong Food is leading the way.

Key Ingredients in Gluten-Free Snacks:

  1. Heart-Healthy Oats: Naturally gluten-free, oats provide fiber and sustained energy.

  2. Nut and Seed Flours: Almond and sunflower seed flours are nutrient-dense and gluten-free alternatives to wheat flour.

  3. Natural Sweeteners: Honey and maple syrup add flavor without the need for refined sugar.

Sow Strong Food’s gluten-free MOM Bars and MOM Bites combine these high-quality ingredients to deliver snacks that are as delicious as they are nourishing.

Why Gluten-Free Snacking is for Everyone

You don’t need to have a gluten-related condition to enjoy the benefits of gluten-free snacks. Here’s why they’re a smart choice for anyone:

1. More Digestible Ingredients

Gluten-free snacks are often made with whole, unprocessed ingredients that are gentler on your stomach.

2. Cleaner Labels

Many gluten-free products prioritize clean ingredients and transparency, avoiding unnecessary additives.

3. Allergen-Friendly Options

Gluten-free snacks cater to diverse dietary needs, making them a safe choice for group settings or families with multiple food sensitivities.

4. Versatility and Flavor

Modern gluten-free snacks offer a variety of flavors and textures, proving that going gluten-free doesn’t mean sacrificing taste.

Why Sow Strong Food Avoids Harmful Ingredients

When it comes to healthy eating, the type of oil used in your food plays a significant role in your overall well-being. Seed oils—commonly found in processed snacks—are often marketed as healthy alternatives, but the reality is more complex. In this article, we’ll explore the health impacts of seed oils, why they’ve become so pervasive, and how Sow Strong Food takes a stand against harmful ingredients by offering clean, nutritious snacks made with natural, wholesome alternatives.

What Are Seed Oils?

Seed oils are vegetable oils extracted from seeds, such as soybean, sunflower, canola, and corn. These oils are widely used in processed foods due to their low cost, long shelf life, and neutral flavor. While they may seem harmless, seed oils often undergo extensive processing that includes the use of high heat and chemical solvents, stripping them of beneficial nutrients and introducing harmful compounds.

Common Types of Seed Oils:

  • Soybean oil

  • Sunflower oil

  • Canola oil

  • Corn oil

These oils are prevalent in snack foods, salad dressings, and even some so-called "healthy" packaged products.

The Health Impacts of Seed Oils

While seed oils are convenient and cost-effective for manufacturers, they can pose risks to your health when consumed regularly. Here’s what you need to know:

1. High in Omega-6 Fatty Acids

Omega-6 fatty acids are essential in small amounts, but an imbalance between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids can lead to inflammation, which is linked to chronic conditions such as heart disease and arthritis.

2. Pro-Inflammatory Properties

The overconsumption of seed oils, particularly in processed foods, contributes to systemic inflammation that can exacerbate health issues.

3. Oxidation Risks

Seed oils are prone to oxidation due to their high polyunsaturated fat content. When oxidized, these oils can produce free radicals, which damage cells and contribute to aging and disease.

4. Chemical Residues

The processing methods for seed oils often involve chemical solvents, such as hexane, which can leave residues in the final product.

Why Sow Strong Food Avoids Seed Oils

At Sow Strong Food, we prioritize your health by ensuring our snacks are free from harmful seed oils. Instead, we use clean, nutrient-rich ingredients that align with your wellness goals.

Key Reasons We Avoid Seed Oils:

  1. Focus on Natural Fats: We rely on good fats from nuts, seeds, and other whole foods that provide lasting energy and support overall health.

  2. Eliminating Inflammation Triggers: By avoiding seed oils, we help reduce the risk of inflammation caused by processed ingredients.

  3. Clean Production Practices: Our products are made without chemical solvents, ensuring a cleaner, safer snack for you and your family.

The Benefits of Healthy Snack Ingredients

Swapping seed oils for healthier alternatives has a profound impact on both the flavor and nutritional value of your snacks.

Alternatives to Seed Oils:

  1. Olive Oil: Rich in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants, olive oil supports heart health and reduces inflammation.

  2. Coconut Oil: Provides medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) that offer quick energy and support brain health.

  3. Avocado Oil: High in monounsaturated fats and vitamin E, avocado oil promotes skin health and supports nutrient absorption.

Sow Strong Food’s MOM Bars and MOM Bites are crafted with wholesome ingredients, ensuring that every bite delivers flavor and nutrition without compromise.

The Connection Between Seed Oils and Chronic Disease

Research has linked the overconsumption of seed oils to an increased risk of chronic illnesses. Here’s what science tells us:

1. Heart Disease:

The imbalance of omega-6 fatty acids in seed oils contributes to inflammation, which is a key driver of cardiovascular issues.

2. Obesity:

Seed oils are often found in calorie-dense, low-nutrient foods that contribute to weight gain and metabolic disorders.

3. Diabetes:

Processed foods high in seed oils can disrupt insulin sensitivity, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

By choosing snacks made without seed oils, such as Sow Strong Food’s offerings, you’re taking a proactive step toward better health.

How Sow Strong Food is Redefining Snacking

At Sow Strong Food, we believe that healthy snacks should never compromise on quality or taste. That’s why we’ve created products that reflect our commitment to clean, natural ingredients.

What Makes Our Snacks Different:

  1. No Seed Oils: We exclusively use alternatives like coconut oil and avocado oil to deliver optimal health benefits.

  2. Good Fats: Our snacks are rich in healthy fats that fuel your body and mind.

  3. Heart-Healthy Oats: A foundational ingredient in our recipes, oats provide fiber and nutrients without artificial additives.

  4. Transparent Practices: From sourcing to production, we prioritize transparency so you can trust what you’re eating.

In today’s fast-paced world, finding the right snack to keep you energized and satisfied can be challenging. Many popular snack options are filled with artificial ingredients and empty calories that leave you feeling sluggish. Enter protein-rich snacks—the ultimate solution for fueling your day with sustained energy and essential nutrients. Why Protein-Rich Snacks Are a Game-Changer

Protein is a macronutrient powerhouse, essential for building and repairing tissues, supporting muscle health, and providing lasting energy. Incorporating protein-rich snacks into your diet can have profound effects on your physical and mental well-being.

The Benefits of Protein:

  1. Sustained Energy: Protein digests slowly, providing a steady release of energy.

  2. Muscle Support: Helps repair and rebuild muscle tissues after physical activity.

  3. Appetite Regulation: Protein promotes satiety, reducing unnecessary snacking.

  4. Metabolism Boost: Protein has a thermic effect, meaning it burns more calories during digestion.

By choosing snacks that are rich in protein, you’re giving your body the fuel it needs to perform at its best throughout the day.

The Role of Good Fats in Protein-Rich Snacks

Fats often get a bad rap, but good fats are vital for overall health. These healthy fats provide energy, support brain function, and help your body absorb essential vitamins.

Why Good Fats Matter:

  • Brain Health: Omega-3 fatty acids and other good fats improve cognitive function and memory.

  • Energy Source: Good fats provide a concentrated source of energy.

  • Hormonal Balance: Healthy fats play a critical role in hormone production.

At Sow Strong Food, our MOM Bars and MOM Bites are made with good fats from natural sources like nuts and seeds, ensuring every bite contributes to your overall well-being.

The Power of Heart-Healthy Oats

Oats are a key ingredient in many protein-rich snacks and for good reason. They’re a superfood packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals that support heart health and sustained energy levels.

Benefits of Heart-Healthy Oats:

  • Cholesterol Reduction: Soluble fiber in oats helps lower LDL cholesterol.

  • Steady Energy: Complex carbohydrates in oats prevent blood sugar spikes.

  • Digestive Health: Oats promote a healthy gut microbiome.

Sow Strong Food’s snacks incorporate heart-healthy oats to create a balanced, protein-packed option that’s as delicious as it is nutritious.

Good Carbs: The Unsung Hero

Carbohydrates are often misunderstood, but they’re essential for fueling your body and brain. The key is to choose good carbs—those that are minimally processed and nutrient-dense.

What Makes a Carb "Good"?

  • Low Glycemic Index: Provides sustained energy without crashes.

  • Rich in Fiber: Supports digestion and promotes fullness.

  • Nutrient-Packed: Delivers essential vitamins and minerals.

Good carbs from whole grains, fruits, and natural sweeteners form the foundation of Sow Strong Food’s MOM Bars and MOM Bites, ensuring you get clean energy to power through your day.

The Science of Protein, Fats, and Carbs Working Together

Protein, fats, and carbs each play unique roles in fueling your body. When combined in the right proportions, they create a powerful synergy that maximizes energy, supports recovery, and enhances overall health.

The Perfect Balance:

  • Protein: Builds and repairs muscles while providing steady energy.

  • Good Fats: Sustains energy and supports brain function.

How Nutrition Can Transform Your Skin Health

Radiant, glowing skin isn’t just about the products you apply—it’s also about what you put into your body. Nutrition plays a critical role in skin health, and the right snacks can provide the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients your skin needs to thrive. In this article, we’ll explore how specific foods contribute to a healthy complexion, why snacks designed for skin health are a game-changer, and how Sow Strong Food’s MOM Bars and MOM Bites deliver skin-loving benefits in every bite.

The Link Between Nutrition and Skin Health

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it reflects what’s happening inside. Eating nutrient-rich foods helps repair and maintain skin cells, protect against damage, and promote a natural glow.

Key Nutrients for Healthy Skin:

  1. Antioxidants: Protect skin cells from free radical damage and support repair.

  2. Healthy Fats: Maintain skin elasticity and hydration.

  3. Collagen-Boosting Nutrients: Support the structure and strength of your skin.

  4. Hydrating Foods: Help maintain skin’s moisture balance.

Snacks for Glowing Skin: What to Look For

The right snacks can make it easier to incorporate skin-friendly nutrients into your daily routine. Here are the key components of snacks that promote glowing skin:

1. Rich in Antioxidants

Antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C, and E, protect skin cells from oxidative stress and premature aging. Foods like berries, nuts, and dark chocolate are excellent sources.

2. Packed with Healthy Fats

Omega-3 fatty acids, found in nuts, seeds, and avocados, are essential for maintaining skin’s hydration and elasticity.

3. Collagen-Boosting Ingredients

Collagen is the protein responsible for skin’s strength and elasticity. While your body produces collagen naturally, its production decreases with age. Snacks with collagen-boosting nutrients, such as vitamin C and zinc, can help.

4. Hydrating Properties

Staying hydrated is key to maintaining a plump, glowing complexion. Foods with high water content, such as cucumbers and watermelon, are helpful, but snacks with added hydration-friendly nutrients can also make a difference.

How Nutrition Transforms Your Skin Health

Eating skin-friendly snacks provides a foundation for long-term improvements in skin health. Here’s how these nutrients work together:

1. Repairs and Rejuvenates

Vitamins and antioxidants repair damaged skin cells and promote the growth of new ones, giving your skin a youthful glow.

2. Protects Against Damage

Healthy fats and antioxidants strengthen your skin’s barrier, protecting it from environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution.

3. Promotes Elasticity and Hydration

Collagen-boosting nutrients and healthy fats improve your skin’s texture and moisture, keeping it firm and supple.

4. Reduces Inflammation

Nutrient-rich snacks help calm redness and irritation, contributing to an even complexion.

They think you’re stupid, they need an intellectual challenge.
In 1969 John Adair introduced a 9 dot puzzle where the goal of the puzzle is to connect the dots by drawing four straight, continuous lines that pass through each of the 9 dots, while never lifting the pencil from the paper. The goal is only accomplished by drawing the lines outside the confines of the square area defined by the nine dots themselves, thus comes the phrase “Think Outside The Box”.
It’s clear that the nutrition bar industry is still stuck in the old, boxed in way of thinking. Just look at the shapes of our competitor’s bars.
The reason nutrition bars are in a square or rectangular shape is because all nutrition bars are pushed through a machine called an extruder that requires the ingredients to be a certain macro nutrient ratio, thus limiting what ingredients bars can be made of.
The Sow Bar is in a circle shape not only because we have a unique, proprietary way of making our bars, but we created this company to challenge the status quo and the low level thinking of Big Food Companies. Moving forward I believe that we will all be healthier if we think out side of the box, or “outside of the bar” that is represented by what huge food companies are offering to the population.

It was a Saturday morning in the fall of 1997 and I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into a warm toaster strudel.
I was disappointed when I opened the box and there were no icing packets left, just 1 frozen hard rectangular pastry that was clearly freezer burned.
Immediately I knew who the culprit was. It was Ben Kershaw who used more than one packet of icing for a single pastry. My morning was ruined and I wanted to beat up my brother because I was hurt over the fact that I couldn’t put a thick layer of sugary icing over a frozen, sugar filled pastry.
Not much has changed over the past 24 years. Ben still clearly loves icing 🤣 and big food companies are still pushing sugary food options to kids and their parents.
It brings me joy when parents tell me how much their children enjoy Sow Bars, and I believe if we make kids conscious of investing wholesome food into their bodies now that the trajectory of all of our future will be brighter. Unhealthy habits are a strain on our economy and our emotions and I believe once we all start systematically defeating big food companies conscious of eating healthy and eating the correctly the future will be bright!

Jay Z and Big Food companies have something in common. Either they don’t understand or they don’t care about the people.

In 2014, for a whopping $56 million, rapper JAY-Z acquired the music streaming service Tidal with the mission to “get everybody to respect music again”.
Tidal is built on the premise that instead of music being owned by music studios, the music is owned by musicians. Thus eliminating the middleman and allowing artist to take their music directly to customers, which allows the musicians to retain more of the money from sales. This sounds like a great plan, but Jay Z made a terrible mistake.

Before the launch of Tidal, Jay Z asked 16 musicians to exclusively release their content on Tidal in exchange for a percentage of equity in the company. These musicians then gathered for a press conference to explain their business model and launched the Tidal brand. The million dollar musicians made the launch and the company all about themselves resulting in a flop.

What Jay Z failed to realize is that the people who keep Tidal and his rap career afloat aren’t the musicians, they are paying customers who ask the question everyday, “How are you going to help ME win today.” They could care less about a bunch of rich rappers trying to make more money off the backs of the people. Jay Z positioned himself as the focus of his mission instead of focusing on serving the people.

It’s the same with big food companies. Look at Kelloggs for example. Over the past 50 years, what new innovative healthy food products have they created to help the people win? Even now 1400 disgruntled Kelloggs employees are on strike because, according to Former U.S. Secretary of Labor and economist Robert Reich, they are “Fed up with corporate greed and corruption.”
To Jay Z and CEOs of food companies:

NONE OF US ARE WINNING UNTIL ALL OF US ARE WINNING!

At Sow Strong, we are on a mission of change. We want to create partnerships with the community and to help people win by providing great tasting, innovative, healthy products.

Please order Sow Bars @ www.sowstrongfood.com.

All pending orders will ship out tomorrow! Thank you for the support and please join this mission!

Thanks for the inspiration Donald Miller

Who remembers the skit from the Chapelle show “I Know Black People”? On the skit one of the questions was, “Why do Black people like menthols?” The answer by two of the contestants was “I don’t know“ to which Dave said “Exactly, no one knows.”

I know the answer.

African-American communities smoke menthol cigarettes because they were told to through media manipulation. There was a mass push in the 80s by the clever marketing firms of tobacco companies to make smoking menthols look cool. These companies targeted low income African-American communities, often including jazz musicians, in their advertisements. From 1998 to 2002, Ebony magazine was 10 times more likely to have an ad for menthol cigarettes than People Magazine.

That’s why black people smoke menthol cigarettes.

The same is true today. McDonalds, who is known for making healthy food 🤣, had an advertisement that included rapper Travis Scott this summer. To be fair, I’ve enjoyed my fair share of Happy Meals and will continue to enjoy a quarter pounder with cheese every now and then. However, the fact remains the same, millions of dollars are pumped into advertisement of cheap food that taste good, instead of life-giving food that will make our communities healthier and provide longevity. Whole Foods or Chipotle didn’t sponsor Travis Scott, it was McDonalds.

For example, I went on a quest to make the best-tasting, healthiest nutrition bar on the planet. A bar that would taste great, optimize hormones, have wholesome ingredients, and be affordable to purchase. During my journey, I called a co-packer and their suggestion was to dumb down the ingredients by 40% to make it easier to push through an extruder. Doing this would change my entire product and reduce its benefits. Hearing this was disappointing, but it didn’t deter me. It only fueled my fire.

Like a good friend of mine said, “We can redefine what’s cool” I believe that we can redefine what’s cool through proper information and nutrition and when we start businesses out of love and care instead of only caring about the bottom line.

Companies like Kelloggs and General Mills knowingly put artificial food coloring in products and these colors have proven to be harmful to children. The sad part about this is that these harmful products are FDA approved even though the FDA admits to these products being harmful to children.

Investigators at the University of Southampton in the UK found that artificial food coloring, like Red40, which can be found in Apple Jacks, is directly linked to increased hyperactivity in children and can lead to ADHD. A separate study found that 8 percent of children living with ADHD may have behavioral issues tied to synthetic food colors and the FDA admits that there's evidence that suggests some children may be sensitive to the ingredients like Red40.

I believe the barometer of a culture is how the culture treats children and looking deep into the food industry it’s failed our kids by bombarding young minds with advertisements to eat junk and making food look more appealing without providing proper nourishment. Over the past decade little progress has been made by bigger corporations like McDonald’s including apples in Happy Meals and Disney forcing advertisers to meet nutrition standard yet work still needs to be done.

We are fighting against big food corporations that have tons of money but we are willing and committed to providing breakfast alternatives to children with nothing artificial.

I bought my first pack of cigarettes 🙂

According to the Truth Initiative, Over the past 50 years tobacco companies have leveraged modern science to make their products more addictive thus resulting in more tobacco related deaths. Awful.

The same is true with big food companies intentionally making junk food more addictive. Many popular snack foods have been intentionally engineered to keep its end user addicted to the products so the big companies can bring in more money.

Naturally human beings crave energy rich foods that contain sugar and fat, think fruit which contains a relatively high amount of natural sugar but little fat or a ribeye steak which contains a high amount of animal fat but a little sugar. Food scientist create products that are far higher in fat and sugar than what occurs in nature. Then salt is poured in high amounts and the result is that the we can’t put the bag of chips down.

My personal opinion is a big food companies are operating with the main goal of making money. The goal should be to make our communities and people stronger. Their methods only make the people eating their food weak, especially those who buy their products that are not informed or educated on the importance of proper nutrition to live a strong, healthy life. They are just as bad as big tobacco companies should be held accountable. But we all have a personal choice of what we put in our bodies.

Sow Strong was created with the goal of making a not just for profit company that SOWS health into the lives of its customers.

The next 100 orders of Sow Bars will have a free bottle of the best tasting, healthiest water on the planet included!

Thank you for all of the support and I’m not smoking this pack.

Four years ago on a hot summer day I went to a local middle school track to exercise. It was one of those days that makes you sweat as soon as you step outside. In the middle of my workout, I looked up and noticed a large man walking around the track. I was impressed with this man’s tenacity to be out on such a warm day attempting to improve himself. As my fellow big man walked around the track, and closer to me, he screamed out, “Hey, what in the world are you doing here!?” I looked up and noticed that it was someone that I had known for years. For his privacy, I won’t disclose who he was, but this person is very special to me and impacted my life in a powerful way. I was taken back about his weight gain but I was inspired by the fact that he was taking responsibility to get healthier.

Sadly two months ago, this friend of mine passed away due to complications of COVID-19. I believe that he had avoidable pre-existing conditions. Over the years, I saw him gain more weight and lose his vitality. I think I only mentioned my concern to him once. I regret not doing more.

This experience, along with several others coupled with a lot of research and my faith birthed a new opportunity. A study from the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism states that there is an association of low testosterone when you have type two diabetes, hypertension and obesity. The same source states that a 45 year old man living in the 21st century has lower testosterone than a 45 year old man living 30 years ago.

I believe that obesity, type two diabetes and hypertension can be elevated if we focus our nutrition NOT on being skinny or avoiding certain macronutrients but by eating for our hormonal heath. I think it’s a matter of having a fuller life and sometimes a matter of life and death. The issue that we face is that we can’t depend on big food companies, they make food with cheap ingredients that taste good. Pharmaceutical companies and Low T centers push testosterone boasting creams and pills that disrupt endocrine systems. We get to take our health into our own hands.

For example Kind Bar who buys approximately 3%-5% of the worlds almonds (per the former CEO) was just acquired by Mars for 5 billion. Almonds have been shown to lower testosterone by increasing SHBG. SHBG is kind of like a car with the doors locked that testosterone drives around in. SHBG binds testosterone up so that our bodies can’t use it. Can we expect Mars, a candy and dog food company, to stop putting testosterone lowering foods into their products? The answer is no. We get to come up with the solution.

In high school I met my wife Chaquerra Allen Kershaw and we fell in love. We connected quickly and I think it was our love for sports and competition that made us so compatible. I remember we use to argue over who had the best abs (she would always win and still does after our 4th child she just delivered! 🤣) We both played sports in college (Go Green!) and soon after graduating we had our first precious child (Praise God!).

Through the years we have always tried to stay in top shape, always looking for convenient healthy options as our family grows. I’ll never forget the day that Chaq bought me my first RXbar. I couldn’t believe that a company was so transparent to put their ingredients on the front of the label! I was sold! That is until I saw a quote from a neuroscientist named Christopher Walker. Christopher said that low carb diets are detrimental to hormonal levels and that peanuts and almonds raise SHBG (SHBG is kind of like a car that binds testosterone). I was intrigued. RXbars are made for the low carb Paleo Diet and are also full of peanuts! I did my own research and experimentation, also learning that micro nutrient deficiencies are depleting our bodies the optimal hormonal response. Also, I liked the taste of RXbar, but I didn’t love it! RXbar was simply the only option. I knew that we could do better.

So I headed off on a long journey that was harder than I thought...to create the best-tasting, healthiest bar on the planet. As I learned from nutritionists, received feedback from my community, as well as the news (stay tuned), the vision for this project expanded into a movement. Now our goal is to make Columbus, Ohio synonymous with health.

This is our first product. The Sow Strong Bar and it’s made under the Sow(D)

Protocol Guidelines:
SOW- To plant, To invest
S- Strength. We eat for strength. Food is for our nourishment and to make us strong.
O- Optimize. The Sow Protocol calls for foods that support your body and optimizing its ability to produce hormones.
Water- Water is a blessing and a gift and it’s crucial to stay hydrated.
(D)- Vitamin D is vital to the body’s hormonal response.

Let’s go!

Would you knowingly let your baby eat metal? Of course not! A congressional investigation that was released today states that four leading baby food manufacturers (Gerber, Beech-Nut Nutrition, Nurture Inc and Hai Celestial Group) knowingly sold baby food that contained high levels of toxic heavy metals that are detrimental to the brain development of babies.

According to the same congressional investigation Campbell’s Soup, who sells The Plum Organics brand of baby products, did not cooperate with the investigation. I believe this story points to a larger issue in our culture. The issue is that we rely to much on enormous companies for our health and well being. These huge brands, in my opinion, are focused primarily on efficiency and money, not health of our communities and clearly not the health of our babies. Has the CEO of Gerber called you to tell you thank you for buying their products? How about the CEO of Campbell’s Soup? Did he send you a Campbell’s Soup T-shirt thanking you for all of the years that you and your family supported their business by buying there soup? My guess is no. What do WE owe to these big companies? Can they deliver quality food products to EVERYONE in the nation? I don’t think it’s realistic. (I have respect for Campbell Soup CEO he is a West Point graduate. I just wish he’d start his own company)

Today we stared our “Sow Strategy”. Our “Sow Strategy” is our plan to “Sow” (give away with intention) 500 Sow Strong “Bars” in Central Ohio. Our goal is to make Columbus, Ohio synonymous with health and our aim is to be THE “bar” of Columbus and all of Central Ohio. We desire to do this in excellence and in service, not simply to make money. I truly believe we are tastier and healthier than any bar on the planet. The “average way” (which are things that render us useless and ineffective) will not get the job done anymore. Let’s attack and defeat Mr Average! *Please someone start a local baby food company *If I see you I’ll “Sow” you a bar 🙂
