It was a Saturday morning in the fall of 1997 and I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into a warm toaster strudel.
I was disappointed when I opened the box and there were no icing packets left, just 1 frozen hard rectangular pastry that was clearly freezer burned.
Immediately I knew who the culprit was. It was Ben Kershaw who used more than one packet of icing for a single pastry. My morning was ruined and I wanted to beat up my brother because I was hurt over the fact that I couldn’t put a thick layer of sugary icing over a frozen, sugar filled pastry.
Not much has changed over the past 24 years. Ben still clearly loves icing and big food companies are still pushing sugary food options to kids and their parents.
It brings me joy when parents tell me how much their children enjoy Sow Bars, and I believe if we make kids conscious of investing wholesome food into their bodies now that the trajectory of all of our future will be brighter. Unhealthy habits are a strain on our economy and our emotions and I believe once we all start systematically defeating big food companies conscious of eating healthy and eating the correctly the future will be bright!
